Denial by Rome police (N.Z .P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ROME, November 12. ' The Rome police have [denied that the mother of the missing grandson of the millionaire oil recluse, Mr Paul Getty, spoke to her son six days after a human ear, said to be his, was posted to a Rome newspaper. posted to “11 Messaggero,” gero,” yesterday quoted Mrs Gail Harris as having said that she exchanged a few words with her son on the telephone, and that because of this, she knew that he was alive on the day of the call, six days after ’the ear was posted to “11 Massaggero,” on October 22. Detectives from the Rome Flying Squad, which is handling the case, told : reporters last night that Mrs [Harris had asked to speak to 'her son during a telephone conversation with “one of the kidnappers” on October 27, but her request had been refused: she had been allowed only to send a message to him in the form of a question to which only he would know the answer.
The next day the “kidnappers” telephoned the correct reply, so Mrs Harris concluded that her son was still alive.
