It was evident early in this match that both teams had prepared themselves well, and neither was about to allow goals by virtue of loose marking. Of the six goals scored, two were penalties and two were netted when the opposition was a man short. University impressed with its ability to nullify Wharenui’s counter-attacks, and R. Tweedie, in particular, was valuable on defence as well as in his customary forward position. The two goalkeepers. B. G. Spear (University) and K. Burrowes (Wharenui). both played soundly although their respective backs made their tasks easier. SOUTH. BRIGHTON 4: N. Brixton 2. J. Moses 2. JELLIE PARK 3: P. Sturge. R. Pirie, M. Lee. Like -the principal match of the evening this was a tense encounter, and the occasional misdirected pass did little to detract from the interest of players and spectators. At half-time the score was 2-2. and the turning point of the

game was a good goal scored bv Moses while his team had a man ordered from the water. Although Plrie equalised in the fourth quarter. South Brighton had the edge and Brixton short netted after the second of his goals to win the match.
