Fine wool down
Fine wool values receded at the Christchurch sale yesterday following the recent trend in Australia. The sale opened on an uncertain note, but with the Wool Marketing Corporation coming into the market early it settled down and even improved slightly. However, halfbred and Corriedale wools were 5 to 7J per cent cheaper than at Timaru last month, and Merino wools were back 5 per cent Passings of
Merino wools were frequent. Crossbred wool also opened 21 per cent cheaper than at Auckland earlier in the week, but also picked up to be in buyers’ favour. Compared with last month’s Christchurch sale halfbred and Corriedale wools were cheaper by 10c to 35c and crossbred was back by 10c to 20c, but prices were still in advance of last year’s corresponding sale.
