Showman’s statement
A young boy left to mind a sideshow at the Ashburton Show on Saturday for a short time, during which $39 in takings disappeared, was still at the stall when the showman returned, according to a man who telephoned “The Press.” The caller, who declined to give his name, said he was the showman involved and was the person who reported the incident to the Ashburton police. He said also that the boy referred to in the police report had not left the stall when he returned. The Ashburton police had no comment to make on the information from the caller or on their report that the boy had left before the showman returned.
