N.Z. girl in Aust. team
One of the foremost women springboard divers produced by New Zealand in the post-war period, Miss Gaye Morley, has been chosen to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch. A Napier girl, Miss Morley won the New Zealand women’s three-metre title for three successive years, between 1964 and 1966, as well as winning the junior title in the first of these seasons. She represented New Zealand in Australia in 1965, and was unlucky not to win a place in the Commonwealth Games team to Kingston in 1966. Soon afterwards, she moved to Brisbane, and has been a Queensland champion and representative since. She has been a minor medal-winner at Australian title meetings, and twice had been tantalisingly close to representing Australia in Games years. A natural athlete with a fine competitive temperament, Miss Morley, who has a big repertoire of testing dives, should be among the leading contenders for medals at Queen Elizabeth II Park.
Other members of the Australian diving team are D. Wagstaff and A. Jackomos (both Victoria), Mrs M. Barnett (New South Wales), and Miss B. Don-net-Riley (Victoria).
