EXPULSION REJECTED
Expulsion of the South; African Consul-General in; New Zealand (Mr P. H. Philip), suggested by the Canterbury University Students’. Association, has been rejected by the Government, a letter from the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Watt) has said. The association wrote to the Prime Minister (Mr Kirk) 1 on September 14, protesting ; about an incident in which 11 {South African mine workers; i were shot, and proposing the move. It also proposed that the Government “ . . . withdraw; the New Zealand Ambassador from South Africa.” Mr Watt, replying in the absence of Mr Kirk, said that New Zealand had never had an Ambassador in South Africa, or accredited to South Africa, nor had it representation there of any sort.
