Former rep. dies at 94
A prominent cricket player and administrator of past years, Mr John Ramsden, has died in Christchurch at the age of 94. In 10 first-class fixtures for Otago between 1909 and 1915, Mr Ramsden took 25 wickets at an average of 29.5. His highest score, 74 not out, was gained against Canterbury in 1912-13, a season when he also had the unfortunate distinction of failing to score in either innings against the same opponent. Born in Melbourne, he played club cricket in Victoria and Western Australia before settling in Dunedin. Mr Ramsden transferred to Christchurch in 1926, and did not retire from lower grade cricket until he was almost 60. Mr Ramsden served on the national cricket council between 1930 and 1947. He was a life member of the Carisbrook Cricket Club and the Christchurch Golf Club.
