Table tennis trophies

In spite of the Wellington men winning 9-3, Canterbury, with its capable women players and good understanding in mixed doubles, was able to retain the Clapshaw Trophy, 16-12, in the annual table tennis fixture in Wellington on Saturday. Canterbury also retained the Brightwell Cup when it overwhelmed Hutt Valley, 26-2, at Lower Hutt yesterday. Wellington proved too good in the men’s section. R. E. Lee, the former national

champion, improved on his performance at the South Island tournament last weekend and beat the Canterbury juniors, W. D. Adamson and M. W. Burrowes. Adamson and Burrowes both gave creditable displays, however, and accounted for the top Hutt Valley pair with ease.

In the lower half, H. P. Holt and Wong Chee Kong lost both their singles to the experienced Wellington representatives, B. J. Kennedy, and F. R. Foster. The Canterbury women defeated Wellington, 10-2, and Hutt Valley, 12-0. Misses B. A. Taylor and P. A. Marks were especially impressive and both were unbeaten in the two fixtures.
