Concert in Square

The first concert in Four Ships Court, in Cathedral Square, will be held next (week. Members of the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Representative Brass Band will play on July 27. The! pupils have been chosen from ; 12 bands. The sixth annual secondary schools’ brass-band festival will be held at Burnside High School next week-end. About 250 pupiis are expected to take part. The representative band was chosen after auditions five weeks ago, and will be conducted by Mr Ralph Simpson, the conductor of the Christchurch Fire Brigade Band. Mr Simpson is a former champion cornet player, and won the veteran solo at the national band championjship last year. The festival concerts at Burnside High School are open to the public. The schools taking part are Linwood, Papanui, Hagley. Cashmere, Rangiora, Riccarton, Burnside, Christchurch Boys’,! Hillmorten, Shirlev Boys’,! Mairehau and Christ’s College.
