OBITUARY Mr O. W. B. Anderson

Mr Oscar Wilfred Breakey Anderson, of Christchurch, who died recently in Somerset at the age o”f 88, while: lon holiday in England, was well known in many parts of New Zealand. He was born at Greenstreet, Ashburton, and for ai while farmed on a family, property on the Rangitata; ■ Plains. He gave this up to study accountancy and became a chartered accountant, and sharebroker. Mr Anderson played a prominent part in civic affairs in Christchurch in the 1920 s and 1930 s as a member of the Christchurch City Council and the Christchurch Drainage Board. He was a former secretary < of the Pioneer Sports Club | and of the Canterbury Ama-1 teur Athletic Association and a South Canterbury and Can-! terbury hockey representa-1 tive. For many years he was a member of the Masonic. Lodge, being at one time pro- j vincial grand treasurer. Mr Anderson was intensely ! interested in horticulture and was widely known for his successes in local and natj'onal shows with daffodils, dahlias, and peonies of which he had the biggest collection in Australia and New Zealand for many years.

For many years, he was chairman of the Canterbury Horticultural Society and a life member of it and of the American Peony Society. He was a foundation member of the New Zealand Dahlia Society. Mr Anderson is survived by three daughters, two of whom live in England.
