The budget

Sir, —In his Budget speech, Mr Rowling spoke of worker participation and shares for employees. An aspect which seems to have been overlooked by Labour is what happens if the industry suffers a loss? Will the worker/shareholders accept the loss and the call on shareholders in event of bankruptcy? Will railway workers and miners be offered shares in their industries? Will there be any protection against the unscrupulous Shareholder who would accept a tempting take-over offer? Or a shareholders’ threat to hold to ransom the industry’s management by indicating sale of shares to an undesirable owner?—Yours, etc.,

JOHN BATEMAN. June 15, 1973.
