Family holiday for $60 week

CVeu> Zealand Frets Association.)

WELLINGTON, June 17. The Minister of Tourism (Mrs Tirikatene-Sullivan) will convene a meeting of parties interested in promoting inexpensive tourist accommodation in New Zealand.

Addressing the Camp and Cabin Association, at Rotorua. the Minister said she hoped the meeting would set

up an advisory committee I which would determine whe- ; ther there were any obstacles impeding or preventing the ' provision of inexpensive accommodation. It would advise the Government on how any such obstacles could be removed or lessened. “It had been suggested that for the purposes of this committee. low-cost accommodation should be denned as accommodation for a family of four (a couple with two children under 15) which rents for no more than $6O a week or $9 a day at peak holiday seasons," she said. However, she emphasised that these terms of reference were tentative and "a starting point for discussion.” Mrs Tirikatene • Sullivan said it was a fundamental belief of the Government that this country’s attractions were the heritage of all New Zealanders. “Opportunities to enjoy these attractions, which are so highly praised by our overseas visitors, should be available to every one of us,” ishe said.
