Decision from Woodside soon

(N.Z. Press Association

PERTH, July 13. The Woodside-Burmah Oil Consortium expects to make a preliminary decision on the development of the NorthWest Shelf oil and natural gas field at the end of this year, with the initial feasibility study now almost complete. Possible future development plans and the tremendous difficulties associated with them were discussed by a director of WoodsideBurmah (Mr K. F. D. Wilson) who said it was quite possible gas would be landed from the shelf by 1977-78. Off-shore development possibilities were outlined for the North Rankin and Goodwyn fields, and the feasibility study included, for each field, three to four drilling platforms linked by interfield connection lines, with production platforms closer to the mainland and shallower water. A possible production rate for a drilling platform was 1500 million cubic feet of natural gas a day. The platform would weigh about 15,000 tons with an (estimated cost of about ls3sm.
