Death after assault

June 17 I A 17-year-old Hamilton youth died this morning and ! his 22-year-old companion Iwas seriously ill in Waikato , Hospital with severe facial lacerations and concussion after a fracas at Te Kuiti last night. Three youths, two from Te Kuiti and the other from : Napier, are being held in police custody in Hamilton and will appear in the Magis- ■ t rate’s Court tomorrow morning. The police have not yet : named the dead youth or his , companion. The assault occurred about 10 p.m. at the Mangaokewa Reserve, about a mile and a half south of Te Kuiti. The police believe that only fists and feet were used in the assault.
