INJURY TO CHILD

Inquiry to be made

(\'.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. June 15. The Director of Social Services for Auckland (Mr E. C. Puddick) said today he would consider the circumstances in which a baby girl, ordered to be placed under the supervision of the Social Welfare Department for two years, was returned to her mother after four months. The mother appeared in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court today and admitted wilfully ill-treating the child. The Court was told the child had been placed under supervision of the Social Welfare Department for two years after a complaint laid at the Auckland Children’s Court, but the child was returned to the mother after only four months. Soon after her child’s return, the mother had held a hot iron to the child’s hand causing deep burns which received no medical treatment.
