Resignation in Athens

June 14. ) Mr Christos Economou, the ) political editor of the Opposition daily, “Athens News,” ’has resigned from his post in [protest against the Greek press laws and the imprisonment of the paper’s publisher, loannis Horn. Hom w’as sentenced to fit months imprisonment in November, 1971, for allowing what was said to be a misleading headline to appear above a story. When the United States Vice-President, Mr Spiro Agnew, visited Greece last) year, the "Athens News”) published a story headed,) “Bombs, Schoolchildren! ! Greet Agnew.” The prosecu-) Ition said that the story made) ’no mention of bomb explosions or of schoolchildren; Horn maintained that the omission had been the result of a typographical error. His sentence was temporarily suspended, pending an appeal to the Supreme Court, which has rejected it.
