Sir,—The people living in the Sumner-.Mt PleasantLyttelton - Heathcote area have been let down again—this time by their own member of Parliament. Before the election Mr McGuigan' gave numerous promises that the next secondary school to be planned and built in Christchurch would be in the Ferrymead area. Mr Kirk has been promising a secondary 'school at McCormack’s Bay I since 1957. We have been (cheated by M.P.s who should (have known the facts when ■ they made their promises.— Yours, etc., DECEIVED. June 8, 1973. [The Minister of Railways (Mr McGuigan) replies: “I made no such promises being well aware of the seven-year-old plans for a secondary school at Hornby, Following my election in 1969 I continually urged the National ! Government to purchase land ■in the Mount Pleasant-Ferry-mead area and commence; planning for a secondary! school for south-east Christchurch and Lvttelton. No action was taken but after the change of Government and visits by the new Minister of Education, Mr Amos, to the district with me, the Department of Education! was instructed to seek land„

in the area for a secondary school. The department is atpresent carrying out these in-: structions.”]
