Underarm service in dispute
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) BECKENHAM. The former American international. Miss J. Heldman, clashed with the umpire after serving underarm in the Kent tennis championships yesterday. Miss Heldman three times served underarm on her way to beating the 16-year-old South African, Miss L. Boshoff, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, in a third-round match. After one of the underarm serves, the umpire, Mr P. Smyth, asked the South African: “Are you happy with that service?” “It’s too bad if she isn’t,” Miss Heldman immediately objected. “Am I supposed to warn her when I’m going to give a drop shot?”
