Man faces 44 charges
Bail was allowed by Mr F. G.' Paterson. S.M., in the Magis-I (rate's Court yesterday, after Heretaunga Pat Baker, aged 52. appeared on 44 charges of false pretence, involving $16,965. He made no plea and was remanded to June 28. Ail the offences are alleged to have taken place in Christchurch. Baker faces 43 charges of gaining possession of money by falsely claiming that he intended to invest the sums on behalf of the complainants. The alleged offences were said to have: occurred between April 10. 1962, and July 7, 1971.
