A record for the annual Great; Northern sale of standardbred j yearlings was established at • I Alexandra Park on Wednesday i night when a filly by Scottish:* 1 Command from Gay Shannon was, knocked down to the Nandina Stud. Pukekohe, for $4OOO. The previous best price was at last year’s sale when S3ooo■ was paid for a filly by Scottish Hanover from Liilium, the dam of Scottish Charm Overall, however, the sale was disappointing. Contrary to expectations there were few Australian buyers and they bought only two lots worth I the modest total of $l3OO. j Passings were frequent and of' j the 76 lots listed only 49 changed j hands. They realised $47,300. an ■ average of $969. : Last year 30 of the 50 lots i I listed were sold at an average price of $ll9B and in 1971 the average was $709. The top priced lot was offered jon account of Mr D. Most, of 1 - Kumeu. An attractive dark . brown, she is a granddaughter of * Shannon's Gift, a good winner and the dam of a top two-year-old. Shannon’s Squire.
