Mr Philip N. Holloway (above), a former Minister of Industries and Commerce, was named yesterday as New Zealand’s new Ambassador to Italy, the Press Association reports. ' Mr Holloway will succeed Mr I. L. G. Stewart, who is now New Zealand’s Ambassador to Belgium and to the European Economic Community. Mr Holloway was elected to Parliament as member for Heretaunga in 1950, and became Minister of Industries and Commerce in the Labour Government in 1957. He retired from Parliament in 1960, and took up a business appointment. During the Second World War Mr Holloway served in the New Zealand Army in Egypt and Italy. After the war he was a member of the Price Tribunal from 1947 to 1950. The Prime Minister (Mr Kirk) said that Mr Holloway’s experience as Minister of Industries and Commerce, and his wide knowledge of economic and commercial affairs, would fit him admirably for his new appointment in Rome. The post was of key importance to New Zealand, in view of this country’s growing trade with Western Europe and Italy's membership of the E.E.C., Mr Kirk said.
