Tributes at Medbury
The jubilee celebrations of Medbury junior school for boys began with an old boys' dinner last evening, at which a tribute was paid to the founder, Mr E. J. Chennells, now aged 80, and his wife. About 100 old boys of the school, which was opened in 1923, listened with amusement and sometimes with sadness to the guest speaker, Mr J. D. Gerard, of Whangarei, as he recalled the early days of the school and the sadder memories of old friends who were killed in World War 11. Mr A. Curtis, of Geraldine, the first boy to be enrolled in the school, was present. On behalf of the old boys, Mr C. E. W. Averill presented $13,575, in payments and promises for the E. J. Chennells Hall.
