SITUATION AT 8 P.M. A belt of high pressure covering New Zealand is moving slowly north-east. A deep depression off Tasmania is moving south-east. A strong north-west airstream will spread over the South Island. FORECASTS: CANTERBURY AND THE KAIKOURA COAST.—Moderate north-easterlies predominating; areas of morning low cloud and fog about the coast; some rain likely in the Alps late in the day; mainly fine and mild. MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS. — Northwesterlies, becoming fresh and gusty; sunny periods; mild. ■ CENTRAL MARLBOROUGH, NELSON, AND BULLER.—Light or moderate winds, northerlies predominating; a few cloudy areas, but mainly fine and mild. WESTLAND.—Light or moderate northeasterlies; cloud increasing from the south-west, and some rain likely in the south; becoming mild. Ol 1 LOOK.—Rather cloudy with some rain in Buller and Westland.
