Bank art awards
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. Two Otago artists won the top prizes in this year’s National Bank art awards, , announced at an exhibition in I Dunedin at the week-end.
Ralph Hotere, of Dunedin, won the $l5OO first prize in! the murals section with an • untitled painting.
in the watercolours section, top prize of $650 wenti to Annie Baird, of Brighton,f Otago, for her entry “Artist! Self Portrait If.” This painting will be presented to the Dunedin Art Gallery. Special awards of .$6O in! the murals section went to: 1 “The Dunstan,” by Rita Blakely (Dunedin); “Port: Theme Embryo,” by Arthur! C. Dagley (Tauranga); | “Tapestry,” by lan Arcus (Wellington); “Design in Metal,” by Eddie Poulston (Timaru); and “Pacific Culture,” by Eddie and Gypsy Poulston (Timaru). Watercolours second-prize winners were: “Otaki Racecourse,” by Gordon Brown (Wellington); “Jim Spiers, Esq., King Country Farmer.” by W. A. McCormick (Wellington); “Country School,” by Colin V. Wheeler (Oamaru); and “Mount Burke, Wanaka,” by Heather Francis (Dunedin).
