Sentence for book theft
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 19. A 47-year-old disability pension beneficiary was placed on probation for two years when he appeared before Mr B. O. Nicholson, S.M., on a charge of stealing 729 books from the Onehunga Borough Council library. David John Passant had earlier admitted stealing the books, valued at $4200, between July, 1971, and January 17, 1973. The Court ordered as special conditions of probation that Passant live and work where directed, and undertake vocational training and psychiatric treatment.
