A cheque tor SUS 1000 was presented to Marylands Special School, Halswell, yesterday by representatives of the United States Navy base at Christchurch Airport.
The money represents half the amount raised at McMurdo Station in December during a 72-hour broadcasting session by Radioman A. Bray (right in the picture above). Mr Bray worked as a disc jockey on the base radio and broke the previous armed services record of 66 hours. Others in the picture, are from left, Terry Thorpe, a pupil at the school, Brother R. W. Moloney, the Prior of Marylands, and Tom Gibbs, a pupil.
