Hawke Cup stays put

(N Z Press Association > NEW PLYMOUTH. Taranaki made its twelfth successive defence of the Hawke Cup against Waikato at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth yesterday. Taranaki won by eight ■ wickets. It reached its second-innings target of 99 ‘for the loss of the opener, T. M. Dravitzki, and the Central Districts left-hander, H. C. Sampson. Taranaki’s other opener, B. L. Roberts, scored the winning run and reached his half-century at the same time. Waikato, 174 for eight wickets in its second innings after the second day’s play, added 52 this morning before' the last two wickets fell. A. Puna was not out 32. Scores. —Taranaki 229 and 99/2: ■B.
