Park fire danger
The Arthur’s Pass National Park Board has urged the public to take extreme care about fires in the park. The board chairman (Mr G. Mollett) said yesterday that conditions at the park were the driest for many years and the fire risk was grave. Some board members had detected the severity of the situation during an overnight stay at the Hawdon Hut on Friday. The ground cover was so dry that fire would spread very quickly, they reported. Mr Mollett appealed both to park users and motorists passing through to avoid taking risks.
