I. Patchett 'had choice’
The one-time Canterbury water polo captain for this season. 1. H. Patchett, was given a choice on whether he played for the province or for Combined Services. And the crux of the matter, said Lieutenant-Colonel N. L Skilton. chairman of the Combined Services Sports Council, yesterday, was whether or not Patchett wished to tour Singa pore with the Services team next month Patchett’s withdrawal from the Canterbury team was announced I last week by the selectors ((Messrs L. G. McKay and M. C Scott). and they suggested Patchett had been “pressured’ into a decision Denying that there had been any pressure. Colonel Skilton said yesterday: “Patchett was given that choice, and he made it.” His decision would not hax * had the remotest association with his job, he said.
