(N.Z P.A. Staff Correspondent) MELBOURNE. The three-year-old filly. Make 1 Mine Roses, won the $BOOO Lightning Stakes over 1000 m at Flemington on Saturday. Make Mine Roses beat Beaches, which was finishing faster than anything else for second, and i the favourite, Abinger. The Hastings mare. Lilt, could : not match the sustained pace, and although she was right in i the firing line till 100 metres out, she dropped out to sixth. Make Mine Roses will start in Saturday’s Oakleigh Plate, and Beaches will contest the V.R.C. Newmarket Handicap on March 10. Gunsynd won the $BOOO Lamey | Stakes over 1600 m, from Gossiper and All Shot. It was Gunsynd’s twenty-sixth win in 47 starts, and he became' the first horse in Australia to pass $250,000. Athletics. — N. Besfamilnaya (Soviet Union) set a women’s 100 metres world indoor best performance when she clocked 11.4 sec at an athletics meeting in Moscow. The previous world mark was Il.6sec.
