U.S. writer leaves

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DJAKARTA, Feb. 18.

The American writer, Wyn Sargent, left Djakarta yesterday after a controversial fourmonth stay during which she married a West Irian tribal chief.

Miss Sargent left Djakarta on an airliner for Hong Kong, where she will stay overnight, before flying to Los Angeles. Miss Sargent, who described herself as a photo-grapher-writer, refused to talk to reporters, but just before she left, with tears on her cheeks, she said: “I feel very sad; I love Indonesia.” Miss Sargent was cleared quickly through the customs, but her four small aluminium cases were carefuly checked. One item in the luggage was a large lump of bone wrapped in newspaper and covered with ants.

Customs officials did not ask her what it was and Miss Sargent refused to tell reporters.
