King’s Tax wins title <.V.Z. Press Association l TIMARU. King’s Tax. ridden by the 17-year-old Miss D. Smith, of Oamaru. won the South Island "Horse of the Year" title at Knottingly Park, Waimate. yesterday by virtue of being the only horse to have two faultless rounds. Bush Creek, with Miss J. Dunn, of Invercargill, had a clear first round but four faults in the second to be runner-up. Castle Flight (Miss M. Menlove, Dipton), Mighty Tarn (Mrs A. McCully. Ternuka), and Dusky Bay (Mrs G. C. West, Rangiora) were third equal on eight faults, j Castle Flight was one of the three horses which jumped clear in the first round. Southland won the South Island area teams events run in conjunction with the feature event, with South Canterbury second, and Canterbury third. The Equizole points prize was on the C grade horse. Sata, ridden by Miss J. Cresswell, of Christchurch, with 15 points. Miss Cresswell w'on three 'events. Second placing went to Cardiff Lass, ridden by B. | Anderson, of Gore, with 10 points .and two wins. ; Cardiff Lass leads with 40 points from three shows in 'the aggregate equizole points prize, a competition for which ends at Rangiora next week-end. Second is Sata (25), with M. McCall's Pegasus (Gore) on 20. The South Island “Pony of the Year” (Table A) title was won by Miss A. Moore’s Tango (Kaiapoi). Other placings were: Miss L. Collins’ Naireena (Gore) 2, Miss M. Taylor’s Coppertone (Geraldine) 3, Miss A. Wightman's Gay Prince (Christchurch), and Miss L. Smith’s Pop-O-Mint (Gore), 4 equal.
