Letter to priests
(N.Z P.A.-Reut er—Copy right) ROME, Feb, 18. The Vatican newspaper, “L’Osservatore Romano, has published a letter sent by South Vietnamese bishops to priests before the peace settlement warning them not to get involved in politics. The letter, dated January 6, said: “On the political level do not accept any title or responsibility. Avoid declaring your political choices. “They are complicated delicate arguments which often cause incomprehension and discord which provoke anxiety amongst the faithful.” i The letter said priests were the objective of the “enemy” and that in difficult circumstances they must do their best to sustain themselves. “We do not condemn anyone. On the contrary we consult often to co-ordinate our ideas and our plans for work in the exercise of our apostolic mission,” the letter said.
