Glenmark Homestead
Sir,—Your report in today’s issue of "The Press,” about a fire at Glenmark ’Homestead stated that the fire was within a few days of 83 years since fire destroyed the mansion. As the Homestead was not burnt until February, 1891, it is only 82 years. My father visited Mr Moore at Glenmark about the early winter of 1890 to consult him about his share in the cost of fencing land my father had bought a few miles from Scargill. Glenmark Homestead was still standing. We were at Happy Valley in February, 1891, when the homestead was destroyed. — Yours, etc.. E. ROBERTS. Senior. February 8, 1973.
[Reference to our files confirms the year of the fire which destroyed the homestead as 1891, not 1892. The fire was reported in our issue of January 23. — Ed., “The Press.”]
