The Holmdale arrived from the Chathams yesterday with 727 bales of wool and 30 tons of refrigerated cargo. She will load again for the Chathams, and to date has booked three rams, four vehicles. 20,000 gallons ot bulk fuel, and some genera! cargo. A fairly light load is indicated. * >?. « Early this morning at Lyttelton First Officer R. F. Trowadale. a former seagoing officer in the Merchant Service who now Hies for N.A.C., will launch a 26ft keeler which he has been working on at his home in Avon head. He has built most of this craft himself and his wife. Mrs Margaret Trowsdale. will perform the launching ceremony. The 12.228-ton refrigerated cargo liner Britannic, well known at Lyttelton, has been equipped to carry containers on deck, according to Shaw Sax ill and Albion Ltd. owner of the iixe- ; year-old motor vessel. Other conventional cargo liners in this trade might be similarly equipped. She called at the port for the same purpose late in November. An 1829-ton motor vessel, she is 11 years old. The Shaw Savill and Albion Line often revives the names of former White Star Line vessels, as in the case of the company’s cargo liner Cymric, now at Lyttelton. An earlier Cymric (12,550 gross tons) was in senice from 1898 until 1916. A 14|-knot steamer, she was a member of the “cattle-ship” class and was fitted with 100 first-class passenger berths. In 1903. this Cymric joined the Republic in the Liverpool-Boston trade, but the First World War brought her back to the New York route until she was sunk by submarine 140 miles from the Fastnet, on May 8. 1916.
