ADDINGTON MARKET Keen demand for all store sheep

The recent upswing in meat and wool prices was reflected when large galleries of farmers followed the first of the one-day store - sheep sales at the Addington market yesterday.

In spite of dry conditions in many districts, all classes of sheep and lambs met a strong inquiry, at prices double those being paid at this time last year. Some notable prices were paid during the day. The best of the two-tooth ewes reached 514.40 — and higher prices are expected in the weeks ahead — five-year-old ewes Sl2, and ewe lambs SI 1.60. Many of the wether lambs were 20c to 30c stronger on last week’s rates.

The store-sheep yarding was 13,835. It consisted of 6590 wether lambs, 3475 ewe lambs. 750 two-tooth ewes, and 3020 adult sheep. Store lambs At more than 9000 head, the store lamb yarding was a large one for so early in January. It included a very good selection of Corriedale and halfbred lambs. In spite of dry conditions in many districts, the market was a very good one for vendors. A small selection of Romnev wether lambs met a strong sale, the best of the entry changing hands at 58.25. Any type of Romney wether lamb was selling for more than S 7.
