TEST WIN IN SIGHT
Pakistan 111 to score
I (N.Z. Frets Assn. —Copprioht) SYDNEY. Pakistan is poised to win the third test against Australia, needing to score 111 runs with eight wickets in hand, and a full day’s play today. A dogged fight-back by the Australian tail-enders, who ■added 90 for the last three .wickets, and two quick wickets to the Australian pace i bowlers, left the result still ■wide open at tea yesterday, I but the uncertain Pakistani batsmen re-established themI selves before bad light stopped play. At the close, Pakistan was 48 for two D. K. Lillee, the Australian speedster who was not expected to bowl because of a strained muscle, volunteered to bowl in the cool, overcast conditions, sending down 11 overs. His speed and accuracy had Pakistan struggling, with both openers out for only II runs, but Aheer Abbas and Majid Khan held on until the bad light brought the tourists some relief. R. A. Massie started Australia’s revival with some fine tail-end batting and then the wicket of Sadiq Mohammad in his second over. The second wicket came [four runs later as Lillee took Nasim-UI-Ghani’s off stump out of the ground splitting it down the middle and almost shearing off the tip with the force of the delivery. 83-RUN STAND Australia’s chances had looked slight when it resumed in the morning at 94 for seven wickets, and soon lost M. Walker. But Massie made 42. and with J. Watkins put on 83 runs. Watkins scored 36. Sarfraz Nawaz finished with eight wickets for 109 for the match—his best test bowling performance.
