Oldest to make traverse

(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Dec. 10.

A retired man, aged 64, has made the grand traverse of Mount Cook’s three peaks. He is believed z to be the oldest person to have made the climb. Mr V. Leader, of Dunedin, completed the climb with two Mount Cook National Park rangers. Mr S. Thorne, another ranger, said that the three left the Plateau hut early and climbed via the Linda Glacier. They returned via the Express hut and the Hooker Valley, and spent a night at the Empress hut

The climb took 211 hours from hut to hut, which Mr Thome said, was good in the snow conditions the party had apparently encountered.
