It is also responsible for town planning and metropolitan highways. Melbourne’s population of 2.4 million is expected to increase to over 4 million by the turn of the century. To cater in part for past and future growth, the SAIBO million South Eastern Sewerage System is under construction. It includes a SA6O million purification plant to be commissioned early in 1974. This most modem activated sludge plant will be controlled by a digital controller. The plant is located in a rural setting on a 1400 acre site. That part now under construction will handle an average flow of 64 m.g.d. with provision for early extension to 128 m.g.d. Power will be generated at the plant and on-site workshops and laboratory are provided. Special attention has been given to facilities to provide excellent working conditions. The Board has a Mechanical and Electrical Division and a Chemical and Bacteriological Laboratory which will afford support in the operation and maintenance of the plant. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must hold a Degree or Diploma appropriate to the position.
