Truman on critical list
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) KANSAS CITY, Dec. 7. The former United States President, Mr Harry Truman, who, at the age of 88, is suffering from lung congestion and bronchitis, remains on the critical list of a Kansas City hospital, but, according to hospital officials, he has “passed through an ultra-critical period.” A spokesman for the research hospital and medical centre to which Mr Truman was taken on Tuesday evening said at 12.15 a.m. that he was in a deep stupor, and that his condition remained critical, but the hospital’s next hourly bulletin reported: “He is not in a coma, and is becoming more responsive to stimulants.”
Mr Truman’s condition was downgraded from serious to critical late yesterday, when he was said to have suffered a temporary relapse. Mr Truman’s wife, Bess, and her sister-in-law, Mrs George Wallace, are at his bedside.
