BOEING CRASH
‘Shot down’ report (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BEIRUT, Dec. 7. Sources in Beirut say that an Egyptian Boeing 707 jetliner which crashed yesterday on a training flight was hit by an Egyptian rocket. Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency reports only that the crash was a training accident. Three pilots and three engineers were killed. Beirut Airport sources say that they obtained information from a well-qualified official arriving from Cairo that the airliner was hit by a rocket fired by Egyptian ground forces. It was not clear if the aircraft was hit accidentally, or whether anti-aircraft forces mistook it for an Israeli aircraft.
The Beirut sources say that the jet flew over a military area by mistake, causing ground forces to take action.
