Voting percentages
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 7. Votes were cast by 93.09 per cent of East Coast Bays (Auckland) voters on the roll for the General Election, said the Chief Returning Officer (Mr J. L. Wright) today.
In Mr Kirk’s electorate of Sydenham, 89.04 per cent of those on the roll voted. Western Maori recorded a 72.91 per cent vote, 81.93 per cent of those voting for the Labour candidate, Mr K. T. Wetere. In the other Maori seat
where final results are known 78.77 per cent voted in Northern Maori, 76.0 per cent of those voting for Mr M. Rate (Labour). Auckland Central recorded the highest number of informal votes, 1435 or 9.3 per cent of votes cast. Polling percentages in other electorates included:— Avon 87.63 per cent, Awarua 90.52, Bay of Plenty 90.05, Birkenhead 90.05, Christchurch Central 86.12, Clutha 89.45, Dunedin Central 89.72, Dunedin North 91.55, Franklin 87.75, Gisborne 91.94, Grey Lynn 87.48, Hamilton East 90.53, Hastings 92.34, Hawke’s Bay 88, Henderson 87.63, Heretaunga 91.88, Hobson 90.07, ana Invercargill 92.78 per cent. The biggest majority for any candidate was that of Mr Wetere in Western Maori. His majority was 8686 in a total poll of 11,364. In that electorate the National, Social Credit and New Democrat candidates all lost their deposits. Manukau (amended figure).— K. O. Douglas (L.), 7830 (7198);

Marstall (L.), 9987 (9470); W. G. Tolhurst (N.), 7108 (6614); 3. S. Humphreys (S.C.), 1168 (1098); R. A. Dowdle (N.D.j, 53 (45); T. L. Sullivan (I.), 50 (47). Majority for Marshall, 2879 (2847).
