Kuranda shows brilliance
"The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. On a holding plough course Kuranda retured a brilliant trial for the Kaituna Hack Handicap at Masterton next Tuesday when he thrashed No Show over six furlongs at Hastings yesterday. Kuranda has improved with his race at Woodville and the trial looked a winning pointer. No Show disappointed and his chances in the Otaki Sprint slumped accordingly. On the firm course proper Gamerullah (J. Frethey) and Merlto (P. Julius) ran six furlongs In 1.17 4/5, the last halt mile in 52 3/5 and the final three furlongs in 40 2/5. Gamerullah looks well and Merlto has been consistent in his latest trials. Minicort (Withington) looked a lot brighter this morning when lie ran half a mile in 53 4/5, the last three furlongs in 40 2/5. He was keen to go a lot faster and will run a much better race in the Tui Gold Cup next Tuesday. His Woodville failure may be ignored. On the plough Kuranda (Hencock) raced right away from No Show and beat him by at least ten lengths over six furlongs in 1.21. the last three in a sparkling 37 4/5. He will win at Masterton on that run.
