Chatham Cup change
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Gillette New Zealand, Ltd, will not be associated with the Chatham Cup soccer competition in future. The secretary of the New Zealand Football Association, Mr G. H. Moore, said yesterday that the three-year contract with the company had reached the end of its term. During this time the Chatham Cup competition won last season by Christchurch United, had reached unprecedented heights.
“It was during this period that it was possible for the N.Z.F.A. to run the latter stages of the competition on the open-draw basis,” Mr Moore said. “The N.Z.F.A. considers there is sufficient interest in the competition now to enable the association to continue with the open draw.”
Soccer. — Tottenham Hotspur beat Liverpool 3-1 in an English League Cup quarter-final replay. Tottenham will now meet Wolverhampton Wanderers in the semi-finals.
