FINNS NO GOAL
Dixon’s eye on Games W.Z. Preu Association) NELSON. Te Nelson runner,' R. P. Dixon, will do no special training for his races in January against the Olympic 1500 metres gold-medallist, P. Vasala, of Finland. Instead, he has started a slow build-up for the 1974 Commonwealth Games. Dixon was third in the 1500 metres final at Munich. The international crosscountry race in Belgium in March fitted into his programme, Dixon said yesterday, but the proposed races against the Finns would interrupt his training. He intends to run as few 1500 metres races as possible. Dixon said that the eight men picked for the crosscountry team for Belgium was not enough. He hoped a ninth member, a travelling reserve, would be chosen. In fact, he would like to see his brother John, who was eighth at the trials at Trantham last week-end, included.
