LAST LAUGH
A couple in Hamilton had a friend who revelled in practical jokes. It was always he who placed the whoopee bladder under the cushion or the plastic spider in the glass of beer. Then he’d go into peals of laughter, with much knee slapping, not always appreciated by the victims. The woman worked in the city and took the same route each lunch hour to do her shopping. She should have been alert
when she met the prankster friend on several occasions, but she is wiser now. He stopped her one day when the lunch hour crowd was at its peak and thrust an object into her hands. With a “Hold this, I’ll be back in a few minutes," he disappeared into the crowd. Almost immediately the sound of maniacal laughter filled the air. The embarrassed lady thrust the
offending item into her basket and tried to look unconcerned as the laughter went on and on and on. The crowd grew thicker and all eyes seemed fixed on her, while she vainly thought of a way to stop the noise. She couldn’t until the tape on the miniature tape recorder ran down. It isn’t certain whether the owner is still welcome at her home.
