SOME GOOD RISES ON FIRM NEW ZEALAND MARKET
Leading share prices were little changed in firm and moderately active trading on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, but a wide range of stocks was traded with some outstanding rises.
Metters jumped 23c to 125 c in the first sale for a month. Brierley has 178,887 ordinary shares, representing 68.87 per cent of the issued capital and is offering 130 c a snare for the balance of the paid capital. The directors of Metters intend to recommend acceptance of the offer for any shares under their control. A.G.S., Brierley Investments, Mason and Steel and Tube gained 10c each while National Insurance stood out with a rise of 20c to 600 c. Airwork added 5c to Wednesday’s rise of 20c with sales at 185 c. Among the building industry stocks, Alex Harvey, at 408 c, Fletcher Holdings, at 201 c, rose 1c each, while C. and A. Odlin finished steady on 132 c after rising to 133 c and Neil Holdings firmed 2c to 192 c. A. and T. Burt, at 140 c, and John Bums, at 180 c, rose another 2c. Atlas continued to rise, gaining 4c at 86c, but it finished the day below its best price in Auckland.
Broadlands eased from 118 c to be steady at 117 c but C.S.I. held a 1c recovery to
110 c after its sharp fall. U.D.C. gained 5c at 245 c. Freightways was 3c higher at 265 c while Brambles-Bur-nett and Transport Nelson were steady.
