Last of apples in shops
Large, firm cabbages and let! tuces are in ample supply and selling at low prices in shops this week. Apples and pears are reaching the end of their season, but are still in good condition and being sold as “specials” in many places. Tomato prices have risen, considerably on last week to 49c to 59c per ib, a result of recent cold weather. Spring onions have, also increased in price, to 18c i to 25c a bunch. New season’s stringless beans are retailing from 50c to 60c per: lb. and green peas are selling about 28c per lb. New potatoes are staying at: reasonable prices—8c to 14c peri lb. Old potatoes, according to quality, are retailing from 3c to! 6c per lb. Spring carrots are still selling: from 15c to 19c a bunch, and radishes from 7c to 10c. Table; onions cost from 5c to 9c per lb. Other prices are:—Cauliflower, from 20c to 39c a head; silver i beet, at up to 15c a bunch;: North Island kumera, from 30c to 35c per lb; pumpkin, from 18c to 21c per lb; broad beans, to 15c per lb; and cabbage and lettuce, from 10c to 18c a head. Varieties of apples still available in the shops are Stunner. Democrat, and Delicious. Pears still available are P-Barry, and Winter Cole. They are selling from 11c to 17c per Ib. Cherries are available in excellent condition and supply from 39c to 70c per lb. and plums are selling to 30c per lb. Strawberries are firm and plentiful, and retailing from 29c to 37c a chip. Grapefruit are selling from 19c to 32c per lb according to quality, and Australian oranges and Ecuadorean bananas are in 1 good supply.
