Treat for 100 orphans
About 100 children from two Christchurch orphanages will be guests of the Sprey-don-Hoon Hay Working Men’s Club at its annual Christmas party at McLeans Island on Sunday. The children, from St Joseph’s Boys’ Home, Halswell, and Nazareth House, will be taken to the picnic by bus and afforded all the privileges given to club-mem-bers’ children.
A spokesman for the club, Mr P. J. Groves, said that the boys from St Joseph’s home had always been the guests of the club at Christmas, but this year it was decided to extend the invitation to include the girls from Nazareth House.
