Top-dressing pilot killed

(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, Dec. 6. A top-dressing pilot was killed this afternoon when the Beaver aircraft he was flying struck a hill on a property in the Te Karaka area, 23 miles from Gisborne. He was

Alexander Herbert Williamson, aged 47, married, who was employed by Fieldair, Ltd.

Mr Williamson had been spraying a property in company with another pilot. When the weather in the area deteriorated, the two pilots decided to return to their base at the Gisborne Aerodrome, and headed their aircraft towards Gisborne. The crash occurred about 3 p.m. The pilot of the second aircraft, who flew over the crash scene, alerted the police. A ground party tramped to the site of the crash about two miles inland from the State highway and worked in pouring rail to free Mr Williamson’s body.
